  • Can you get a mouth guard? I've had one for 15 years (predrinking) and I clench my teeth. My teeth are still straight, not ground down, and I'm 58 but look younger because my teeth are in good shape. No headaches.

  • Thank you, I’m only 34 but my teeth are already ground down a little mostly during stress way back in college... but I don’t want them to grind down any further... I’ll pick one up!

  • Maybe try meditation? I had a teeth grinding episode where I "Sprained my tooth" from putting pressure on it. It was so bad I had to get anbesol. I just became very aware of my face muscles and body and practiced relaxing and deep breathing. Kind of like in the Dentist chair when they are drilling I will notice I am super tense all over my body and then I relax it all. Same kind of thing. IWNDWYT

  • Thanks, yeah maybe it’s an anxiety thing... need to find other ways to relax.

  • How about celebrate the beautiful day! Your not hungover, sleeping late, indoors.. your out breathing fresh air, taking a walk, seeing how clearly your eyes see the day..... Wow! Wonderful.... IWNDWYT

  • Good to remember :-)

  • Maybe with some of your favorite foods? I treat myself to donuts pretty regularly. Pink frosting with sprinkles if they're available. They feel celebratory and they're delicious.

  • Good idea. I think I’m gonna go get tacos...

  • I lift heavy stuff.. powerlifting to angry music. That's my relaxation

  • Alright I looked him up and he’s cracking me up. Good recommendation 👍

    1612918830

  • I don’t know why I didn’t think of that. Good idea... thank you.

    1612915909

  • Yes! I dreamt about drinking last night and was so relieved that I didn’t really screw up when I woke up!

    1612847465

  • That sounds awful. But you’ll get through it!! Hang in there, and good luck!

  • That’s the age I started to quit and flirted with dry Jan. Went another 5 years before I’m now taking it seriously in AA. Codependent substance abuse destroyed my marriage but ultimately it led me to sobriety. Make sure your wife is on board because I found sobriety impossible with my partner drinking heavily.

    1612728583

  • She supports my decision, but I don’t think she wants to also quit herself. She drank more moderately than I did, but it will be difficult to see wine and gin in the house.

  • I quit at 34 as well when my wife got pregnant with our son. Read "This naked mind", a book which changed my perception of alcohol. Also keep reminding yourself when tempted to drink that that short period of happiness/enjoyment it may bring is outweighed by a factor of 10x in terms of how long it takes to recover and feeling shitty afterwards. This is what helped and continues to help me keep going.

    1612725056

  • I will definitely read that, thank you!

    1612732276

  • Not easy... great job! I found myself drinking like 5 sprites last time I did this... I’m going to have to do water next time! :-)

    1612715140

  • Awesome, me too! I’m actually going to watch the game sober tonight... I haven’t done that in a while... looking forward to actually enjoying the game!
